Meet Groovy Hippie’s Founder

Hi, I’m Ava — the founder of Groovy Hippie.
If you’re here, thank you for taking a moment to read my story. It means more to me than you know.

I didn’t grow up with a normal bedtime routine.
While other kids listened to fairytales, I fell asleep to real stories from my grandmother — a true hippie at heart.

She told me about music festivals under open skies, hitchhiking with friends just to see a band, trading handmade clothes and jewelry with artists she met on the road. She believed in peace, freedom, and the kind of self-expression that didn’t ask for permission.

Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the floor, watching her pull out old clothes and treasures from her “magic” trunk — embroidered jackets, faded band tees, dresses with wild prints and flowing sleeves.

She’d smile and say:

“Clothes should feel like your soul on the outside.”

Those words never left me.

As I got older, I started to notice something.
Around me — online, in local communities, in small corners of the internet — there were so many incredible artists. People creating designs that were bold, weird, emotional, funny, poetic… and completely themselves.

But most of their art never reached beyond a small circle of friends or a tiny following.
Big brands dominated the spotlight, while these original voices stayed in the shadows.

That didn’t sit right with me.

I kept thinking about my grandma and the way she cherished every handmade piece she ever owned — not because it was expensive, but because it had heart. It was someone’s vision, sewn or painted into reality.

That’s where the idea for Groovy Hippie was born.

I wanted to create a space where:

  • Artists could share their creativity with the world

  • People who love unique, meaningful clothing could actually find it

  • And the spirit of freedom, color, and individuality my grandmother lived by could keep going

I didn’t want Groovy Hippie to be “just another clothing brand.”
I wanted it to feel like that magical trunk my grandma had — full of stories, energy, and pieces that make you feel more like you when you put them on.

Running this brand has been one of the most beautiful, challenging adventures of my life.

Behind every design you see on our store, there’s a real person — an artist who stayed up late sketching, drawing, painting, editing, and pouring emotion into their work. There are playlists, coffee cups, messy desks, and big dreams behind every piece.

And behind every order… there’s you.
Someone who chose to support a small brand instead of a giant machine.
Someone who saw a design and thought:

“That feels like me.”

That connection — between artist and wearer — is what keeps me going.

There have been moments when things got hard.
Like any small business, we’ve faced uncertainty, stress, and plenty of late nights wondering, “Is this still worth it?”

But then I see a new design from one of our artists that blows me away.
Or I read a review from a customer saying that their new favorite shirt made their day, started a conversation, or helped them feel more confident in their own skin.

In those moments, the answer is always yes.
Yes, it’s worth it.
Yes, this still matters.

Because Groovy Hippie isn’t just about clothes.
It’s about people.
It’s about art.
It’s about carrying forward a way of living that believes in color over conformity, kindness over judgment, and self-expression over “fitting in.”

When you shop at Groovy Hippie, here’s what I hope you feel:

  • Seen – like there’s a design that speaks your language

  • Free – to be bold, weird, soft, loud, or anything in between

  • Connected – to the stories and humans behind what you wear

My grandmother used to say,

“The world always needs more color, more love, and more honest souls.”

This store is my way of honoring her — and of honoring all the artists and free spirits who refuse to dim their light.

Thank you for being here.
Thank you for supporting small, for supporting art, and for supporting a dream that started with a hippie grandma and a little girl listening wide-eyed to her stories.

Stay free. Stay bold. Stay groovy. 🌈✌️

With love,
Ava
